Cockpit Display
For inflight applications the use of a ruggedized PC platform is recommended.
The crewBOOK EFB Display (CED)

The crewBOOK EFB Display CED8 and CED10 are available for General, Business and Commercial Aviation.
The CED8 display features a resistive touch, TFT screen with an 8.4" diagonal 800*600 resolution. The CED10 has a 10.4" diagonal screen with a 800*600 resolution. Both crewBOOK EFB Displays are sunlight readable, have brightness up to 750Nit and are dimmable down to 15 nit for night flying. The crewBOOK EFB Display housings are made of milled aluminium making them light weight and very rugged. They can be mounted to the aircraft by using R.A.M-mount D-type mounts.
Use a laptop as your Electronic Flight Bag
By combining the right Laptop or TabletPC with Visionaire's Cockpit Display you can have all advantages of a class 2 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). Through the FAA circular AC 120-76A, operators are now able to use EFB systems to store, retrieve, display and use a wide variety of required documents and procedures. Via the Cockpit Display CED8 & CED10 all software on the Laptop/Tablet PC can be accessed.
These applications and data can be:
- Inflight Event Manager
- Weather information
- Notams
- Operational data and calculations
- Manuals
- Minimum equipment list (MEL)
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Approach Plates (SIDs and STARS, Airport charts)
- Onboard Video Surveillance
Your advantages when using the CED8 or CED10:
- Sunlight-readable touch display
- Immediate access to all information needed by the pilot
- By using right software like Jeppesen FliteDeck reduce pilot errors
- Perform calculations and conversions
- Manage manuals
- Flight planning
- Moving Map when a GPS module is coupled
Can You Use Any Laptop or Tablet PC as an EFB?
We don't recommend using any Laptop or TabletPC as an EFB platform and this for the following reasons:
- Most devices are not designed to work in an airplane environment. Vibration, possible drop, moisture, ...
- EMI and RFI can be emitted by the device and are not allowed in the cockpit environment
We have good experience with the Panasonic Toughbook series (CF18 and CF29). They are build to be used in rough environment and comply to the MIL STD 810F, MIL STD 514.5 cat24 and MIL STD 461E standards. Solid docking stations are available.
Why not use the Laptop or TabletPC's screen?
Typical Laptops have screens with a brightness of 150 to 250 NIT. No anti reflexion, nor sunlight coating. Only this makes them unusable in a cockpit environment. Displays tend to wash out in direct sunlight (and can be too bright for comfort at night). Most TabetPC's or laptops are not build for installation in rugged environments. TabletPC's complying to the Microsoft TM set of specification need to use an active pen. These pens need batteries to function. Loosing the pen in flight, or empty pen batteries make the TabletPC unusable. With the crewBOOK EFB Display 8/10, Visionaire offers cockpit crews 2 EFB displays. Depending on the space available you can select the CED8 (8" display) or CED10 (10.4" display). Both have the same power and convenience:
- High brightness touch screen
- Sunlight viewable display
- Fully dimmable for night flying
- Allows all capabilities of moving-map technology
- Rugged construction
- Upfront display controls
- Compact and lightweight
