December 2004 - EKP-IV now viewable in two display modes.
Visionaire, a leading technology company specializing in the sales and marketing of Mobile airline solutions and portable GPS moving map systems, announces a new capability that allows the EKP-IV to be operated in either a vertical or horizontal mode.
"The new EKP-IV is a tremendous improvement over any of the other existing portable GPS moving map systems," said Bernard Panier, manager of Visionaire. "We already have the largest and most brilliant colour display in a portable device, as well as the highest screen resolution. Now, we are the only company that has the built-in capability to view the display in either horizontal (landscape) or vertical (portrait) mode . This allows the EKP-IV to be used in a variety of installations onboard an aircraft; on the yoke, installed in a home-built panel or located anywhere inside the aircraft with our cradle mount and R-A-M accessories," added Bernard Panier.
With a few keystrokes, the display modes can be switched between vertical or horizontal. The keypad layout is designed so that all keys are readable regardless of the display mode selected. At any time, one can choose the display mode - putting unprecedented control and power at the aviator's fingertips.
The EKP-IV was introduced in Oshkoch last summer and is the successor of the already widely accepted EKP-IIIc, which is used by thousands of pilots world wide. The professional version, EKP-IIIc Pro SAR, finds it usage in many Naval, police, fire brigade and Medivac units.
New customers have shown a strong preference for the new EKP-IV, especially in a side-by-side comparison to other portable units. "It's really exciting to see the response from customers when they see the EKP-IV for the first time," said Bernard Panier. "Many planned on purchasing other smaller portable units, but when they saw the EKP-IV, they were instantly captivated by its large, clear and easy-to-view display."
Another great feature of the EKP-IV is the use of 6AA rechargeable batteries that can be used in the unit either as an emergency power supply or for limited use without aircraft power (up to 2 hours). The EKP-IV is available through avionics dealers in the Benelux. For more information contact: Visionaire bvba, Leugstraat 130, B-2630 Aartselaar.

August 2004 - Visionaire Introduces The Ekp-IV Moving Map Gps.
Aartselaar, august 12, 2004 - Visionaire announces the availability of the EKP-IV Moving Map GPS. The new EKP-IV expands on many of the advanced features that made its predecessor, the EKP-IIIC Series, so popular. Like the EKP-IIIC, the EKP-IV features a brilliant color Thin Film Transistor (TFT) screen with sunlight-viewable filters, which makes it viewable in all light conditions. In a unique twist, however, AvMap's product engineers have managed to increase the display size to a LARGER 17.5cm - diagonal screen while actually decreasing the overall size of the case.
By strategically positioning menu keys along the sides of the slimmed-down case, designers have made it easier than ever to operate and access features such as the new Profile and Landscape viewing capabilities. Key improvements were also made in the areas of chart data storage and software. Instead of operating with a 16MB C-card, the EKP-IV utilizes a standard 128MB Compact Flash (CF) with the capability to expand to a 256MB card in the near future.
"What set the EKP-IV product apart from others is the Large display size and display orientation and this in a sleek unit design" says Luca Padroni, Product Manager at AvMap Italy. "We carefully listened to our customers and market needs. The EKP-IV is the answer to the General Aviation Pilot needs."
The software provides expanded capabilities for viewing aviation and marine data. The same Jeppesen® library from the EKP-IIIC is included; the same unit can also read award-winning NT+ marine cartography. The background cartography, on the other hand, has been changed to TeleAtlas® data. By doing so pilots have land details at all zoom levels.
The EKP-IV is designed to be mounted on the aviator's knee, but the kneepad is removable to allow R-A-M® mounting in various locations in the aircraft. Even with the six included, rechargeable AA batteries inserted, the EKP-IV weighs only a few grams more than the EKP-IIIC. These batteries provide more than 1.5 hour of emergency power, should aircraft power be lost.
"With this new EKP-IV the general aviation pilot will enjoy the enhanced situational awareness and experience clear cartography like those few glass cockpit pilots" says Bernard Panier, General Manager of Visionaire.
